Jennifer Hudson to be Honored During the Grammys on the Hill Ceremony
4:38AM Sunday
March 24, 2013

Jennifer Hudson is heading to Washington, D.C. next month for the Recording Academy's Grammys on the Hill event, which each year brings together special guests from the music and political worlds.  During the awards ceremony, which will take place April 17, Jennifer will be presented with the Recording Artists' Coalition Award in recognition of her artistic achievements and generosity as a philanthropist.

"We are elated to recognize Jennifer Hudson as not only a gifted musician and actress but as an extraordinary humanitarian who has selflessly contributed her time and talent to numerous worthwhile causes," Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow says in a statement.

Following the shooting deaths of Jennifer's mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew in 2008, the Grammy Award-winner established the Hudson-King Foundation for Families of Slain Victims.  Each year, Jennifer also helps provide school supplies and other basic necessities to kids through the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, which is named for her nephew.

Proceeds from the Grammys on the Hill event will benefit the Grammy Foundation, which promotes music education in schools and supports underserved music programs throughout the country.

On April 18, the Recording Academy will host the Grammys on the Hill Advocacy Day, which brings music professionals from across the country together with key legislators who advance pro-music policies.
