R. Kelly Hit to Replace National Anthem?
4:38AM Monday
March 11, 2013

Imagine it: an America where every Super Bowl pre-show includes a nod to R. Kelly.  That's what a few thousand people are working to make happen by signing a petition asking President Barack Obama and his administration to make Kelly's 2003 "Ignition (Remix)" single the new national anthem.

The petition on the White House website declares that the R's chart-topping "Ignition" remake, "even a decade after its creation, is still hot and fresh out the kitchen."  The author adds, "America has changed since Francis Scott Key penned our current anthem in 1814.  Since then, we have realized that after the show, it's the afterparty, and that after the party, it's the hotel lobby, and..."  You get the picture.

From the tone of the petition, it's probably safe to say that whoever got the ball rolling on the R. Kelly request isn't serious.  As of Tuesday evening, the petition had 2,202 signatures.  About 90,000 more will have to roll in by April 2 for the petition to get a review by government officials.
